The freestyle category lets you run wild with your imagination and skills, with basic help if required. The goal is to disrupt the banking industry. To help you with this, you can use our Breeze API or any standalone model (if needed).
In this category, the aim is to improve the Backbase Platform by getting under its skin and hacking it! There are plenty of areas to tackle, such as CX Services, our Mobile or Web SDK, the Widget Collections, Manager, Forms, plus all Backbase internal (dev) tools. This is a chance to walk the walk and enhance the Backbase product experience for everyone!
This category offers an opportunity to greatly improve the experience of being a Backbase employee. For instance, you can do this by hacking our time tracker tool, or an Atlassian extension, or any internal system or workspace improvement. Liviu Istrate, Endava
"One of Endava teams won one of the prizes (the GO Pro camera). I had the chance to talk with them in Bucharest on our Innovation Lab and they liked the event and the experience. The guys here in Cluj said also they will definitely want to participate again in such events, so not bad for a first try."
Pawan Sangwan, Guardians Team
"Backbase Hackathon 2016 was a great experience, working in a small team with a clear goal in mind “we need to make a working POC to demonstrate the value of our idea, which can later be productized” . We implemented our feature in three different ways and choose the best one of them. We are proud of what we developed and demonstrated in this short time. The best part of this Hackathon was the teamwork: the team really came together in conceiving idea, solutions and implementing them. An event like this can really show you and your team what you're made of!"
Fernando, Nostromo team
"Combining enterprise/internet cultures and mixing them with our great crew of professionals made it the perfect recipe to succeed on this first attempt, which has offered real proof of how far we push our ideas at Backbase. Really looking forward to being involved in the next one, which is hopefully soon!"
Marco from Exodus 5:7
"Hacking away during this weekend was a lot of fun. The great organization made sure that the only thing we had to worry about was coding away! Grub and caffeinated drinks were always within arm’s reach. I liked many of the other demos – there were a lot of very cool ideas, and the competition was fierce!"
ui from Ocho team
"I loved the Hackathon. It was fun, there was a good atmosphere, and it was really well-organised."
Sara from Exodus 5:7
This Backbase Hackathon was amazing! We had the chance to be creative and work out-of-the-box. My team worked with 3D printers and electronics. I completed the project with the concept behind the product and an interface design for toddlers. It was challenging, very well organised and extremely fun. Can’t wait for next year!
We had 45 hackers, 15 teams based in 6 different locations (Amsterdam, Atlanta, NYC, Skopje, Belgrade, Kiev).
Apart from coding, we were singing and dancing, and we had one pirate in the office!
We were hacking for a total of 26 hours.
We all had dinner together. We had tons of Red Bulls during the sleepless night (Ok, maybe we had several naps).
